An emergency project to support children with an detained parent and their families during the lockdown and the phase following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Because of the suspension of the visits in prison, due to the rules to prevent the spread of the virus, a network of interventions was necessary to stem the possible affective and emotional drifts of both the inmate and his family members.
An emergency project to support children with a parent in prison.
With the funds of 8xMille, a project was created to benefit 180 families for the maintenance of emotional relationships between parents and children.
The health emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the already complex relationship between detained parents and their children. Psychological support, which is essential in these cases, meetings in “protected” environments and specific support paths have had to find new ways of implementation. For this reason, the Italian Hindu Union wanted to support the project of Associazione Bambinisenzasbarre Onlus, thanks to which it was possible to create the “Telefono Giallo” (“Yellow Telephone”) service to communicate beyond the bars and in a “virtual neutral space”.
Highly qualified operators offered essential services for families in difficulty. “Telefono Giallo” (“Yellow Telephone”) provided families with a listening ear, psychological support and specialist answers via telephone assistance, email, text messages and WhatsApp. The “Spazio Neutro Virtuale” (“Virtual Neutral Space”) project guaranteed the presence of third-party figures responsible for putting the detained parent in contact with their minor children.
Thanks to this innovative project, the operators, who already followed the minors in person, were able to ensure continuity in family relationships also through three-way calls.
